The N.P.N.A. Board meets the second Tuesday of each month in the Community Room of the Victoria Police Station at 850 Caledonia Street from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M. All members of the Association are welcome to attend our meetings.
The benefits of membership to NPNA:

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS - a Newsletter from your Membership Chair

July/August 2009

Dear Friends & Neighbours of North Park,
Due to health reasons, I have to step down, immediately, as a member of the NPNA Board of Directors. It has been a pretty intense past three months with frequent hospitalizations and new diagnoses. I regret that my work within our community, as well as my involvement throughout the city of Victoria has to cease - but my doctors have impressed upon me the need for a shift in priorities.
Know that it has been a privilege to serve as your Membership Chair. It's been exciting to start new programs of involvement, such as Membership Rewards and Membership Cards. Your support and willingness to participate has been my greatest incentive during this past year. Thank You!
Your Board members will still be there to address your needs, your questions, and your suggestions as to Membership issues. Don't hesitate to contact them.
I'll be eagerly reading of all that you continue to accomplish as a neighbourhood with a purpose, a neighbourhood that is goal oriented, a neighbourhood of sharing, caring, and compassionate people.
Sue Lawson

May/June 2009

Hi neighbours! Get ready – two very important and exciting dates are coming up – so be sure to mark them on your calendar
Tuesday, June 9 – 7:30 – 9:00 PM – Special General Meeting
North Park Manor 875 North Park Street
Saturday, August 29 – 12:00 – 4:00 PM – Annual NPNA Festival
Franklin Green – behind Welburns Market off Cook Street

Your NPNA Board has been hard at work addressing your requests and concerns and as a result, is ready to present you with several very important items, requiring your vote. Therefore, as announced at our board meeting of April 14, we are calling a Special General Meeting for all members of our association. We will be presenting, for your approval, our new Constitution and Bylaws, including the proposal for Membership Dues, new guidelines pertaining to elections of directors (Board members), as well as other items that can only strengthen our association. We’re also pleased to announce that Mayor Dean Fortin will be our guest speaker. Mayor Fortin served as the Council Representative for our association for many years, so is acutely aware of the many issues, challenges, and inspirations that we work on.

It is imperative that your voice, your vote, be recognized at this meeting – for we can only properly represent you as a result of your input and guidance. To cast your vote(s) at any Annual or Special General Meeting, you must be a member in good standing. As per the B.C. Societies Act, which our association is governed by, this requires us to have on file a current application with the date you began your membership, resident or business address, as well as current contact information.

If you have not submitted this updated application since March, then please do so prior to our meeting of June 9th. You can accomplish this quite quickly by going to our website at www.npna.ca , go to the ‘About/Membership’ page, click on ‘Membership Application’, complete the form and click on ‘send’. Your update will come to me directly.

Yes, we’re getting ready for the best Annual NPNA Festival yet!!! I’m hearing exciting rumours of music, song, comedy, dancing, youth acts and more on our big stage this year. With two of our local churches lining up lots of entertainment and activities for children – families will have a great time! Many of our local businesses will be involved, offering some exciting gifts for prize draws, special interests for our seniors, yummy treats to munch upon…and tons more!! Keep a close eye on our website, your email and mailboxes for more info. You don’t want to miss this great afternoon!

So, have you been using your Membership Card to reap your Rewards?? If not, you’re missing out for sure, as we now have 9 North Park businesses signed up to this great program with offerings of lunch for two, coffees for two, and discounts on dry cleaning, music items, hair and esthetician services…just to name a few! Make sure to check the website for the interview on the first business to sign up for our Rewards Program….Serious Coffee….find out the special family affair that has made this business a huge success in less than a year. Check out our site each month for new interviews of other Rewards businesses.

I know that you’ve seen the occasional call we put out for work parties…calling for some help to work on our Native Plants Garden, installing benches and bulletin boards, and working on other projects. Did you know that for every person that shows up for these work parties we receive $15.00 per hour/per person, in match grant funds with the city of Victoria? Another win-win for our association! There’s always something you can do…you don’t have to be fearful of heavy physical work if that’s an issue. Cheerleaders and gofers are always welcome – that’s the category me and my wheels usually fall into – whatever works. Come and join us, get involved – after all, this is all for you and your neighbourhood. ‘Sides – we have a ton of fun!!

March/April 2009
Yes, your membership in the NPNA certainly does matter – your concerns and your input to our Board is the fuel that drives us forward – hopefully addressing the needs of our neighbourhood in an effective and concrete manner.
We have been in the process of updating our membership list to accomplish this necessary communication between you and your Board. As per the Societies Act of B.C., we are required to list the physical address of all members on our Membership List, which of course remains confidential.

As of the end of February we have a new revised Membership Application/Update
Membership Application form

Would you please follow this link, complete the form and press the submit button (your Application/Update will be directed automatically to us via email).

If we don’t hear back from you, then we will assume that you no longer consider yourself a member, and will remove your name from the membership roll. Some of you have provided us with your physical address, but not an email.

If you haven’t heard from us as of late, this may be why! We apologize when we just don’t have the people-power and/or the funds to snail mail the minutes, agendas, etc. We are making a concentrated effort to address this for you.

This month we are sending minutes and upcoming agendas to all those we have not had an email for. Hopefully, when such individuals complete the included application/update our bundle for Canada Post will lessen.

Now for some exciting news as to our Membership Rewards Program. We have now passed out over 40 NPNA Membership Cards. Come pick up yours at our next Board meeting. You will have read on this website that a 2% rebate of purchases you make at any Husky/Mohawk station will be returned to this association.

Now we’re ready to kick off the Rewards part of this program. Five North Park businesses, members of NPNA, have signed up and are ready to offer you savings when you present your card at their business. You will find a list of participating businesses under the membership information on the ‘About the NPNA/Membership’ page About page

Keep watching this site for further North Park businesses offering you more savings!! Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions or if I can support your membership needs.
